I have been a Chi advocate for years and am not one to write reviews but in my search for a new straightener for this XMas I wanted to see if there was something better because my hair is so darn frizzy and dry to the ends so I started doing research as well as look at consumer reviews so this is why I am writing one today. I came across this product lumabella straightener and was kinda skeptical about the reviews ( yes I am hard to convince regardless of the amount of good reviews) on the cool mist feature with the macadamia conditioning oil .. and the fact that it left your hair less frizzy, and felt softer and blah blah, because I was spending a good amount of money after all, so I started at instagram and YouTube for reviews and some of the people I follow had good things to say about it so all in all I decided to give it a try.
After trying it for the first time I had a hard time applying the conditioning oil into the cartridge and spilled half of it which is unfortunate because it only comes with two in the box… but once I actually got to try it it was easy to follow the instructions on how to operate the cool mist feauture and heat settings. The straightener is a little heavier than a Chi but then again it carries a cartridge with liquid in it. It does heat up as fast as it says it does, it went from like cold to hot in a matter of seconds. I was actually very surprised my hair turned out looking good, my hair to the ends felt softer than usual, had like 80% less frizz, and lasted looking good for the entire day. As I tried it out more often I noticed that my hair doesn’t get as oily as it used to, it’s just soft and healthy looking and smells good from the oil. I love it now and really see the difference from my other straightener… sorry Chi you’ve been replaced. About the oil I spilled I contacted lumabella and they were so helpful in sending me some more oils at no charge to replace the one I spilled. I gotta to say this one is worth your money ( coming from a girl who never leaves good reviews). I attached a pic of my before and after a of my first two days trying it… don’t judge my dry frizzy hair.

From out of the box to done took 20 minutes. It took 70 seconds to hear to the middle setting. I tried going higher and it made my hair too hot to touch when styling it.

The oil was easy to get into the container but I wasn’t able to get the whole tube into it at first try. There was room but I wasn’t holding it right so it would have spilled if I’d kept putting it in.

The steam channel took getting used to. I’m right handed and I had to pay close attention to where the channel was pointed when doing the back and right side.

I’m happy with it though. It was a lot faster than my prior iron and I’m sure I’ll be using it a lot.

I do wish that I could bet more of the oil. My hair had a little frizz at the end but no where near as bad as my old one.

    Pictures are before and after.

This is the first time I’ve used a LumaBella hair straightener, and it works rather well, I have to admit. You receive the straightener and two packets of their macadamia oil (more like tubs) which allow you to use the ‘cool mist’ feature of the device (you can also use distilled water or the iron without the mist feature). It’s easy to add the oil for the most part – you pop out a rectangle on the bottom and then there’s a rubber socket you have to remove (that might take some nails or something small to pry it out). It holds a whole tube, more or less (I had a little oil drip out when I was adding the tube), and when I put it back in I didn’t see any oil drip out of the iron.

There’s a long cord and the plates are wide enough to handle a decent section of hair. They heat up in a decent amount of time, (a minute or so), it’s not blinding fast but it doesn’t take forever. There are blinking lights that correspond to a heat amount, which you can find in the manual. There is an auto turn off (an hour) in case you forget to turn it off, and a locking mechanism.

As I said, you can decide if you want to use the ‘cool mist’ function, there’s a button on the top which you must hold down for two seconds if you want to turn it on, and then it won’t emit the ‘steam’ until you close the iron. I had mine on a lower setting since I’ve bleached and dyed the tips of my hair, and I didn’t see too much steam. But my hair was straightened and the ends didn’t feel hot despite being straight, so it worked, and it didn’t come across as ‘fried’ or damaged.

So it works, it’s good if you’re worried about heat damage, and there’s options for the ‘cool mist’. All in all, I’ll be using this in the future when it comes to straightening my hair.
